How to Calculate Tuition Fee for Program?

There is a general misinformation about the methods used for calculating Total tuition Fee for the program. Often , the students check the amount on I-20 and multiply it by 2 for Masters and 4 for Bachelors.  The amount on I-20 includes tuition Fee, Living Expenses, Books, Insurance and Misc expenses. We need to check for tuition amount as that is the amount payable to the university.

The right way to calculate the tuition is:

1. Find out the no of credits for the Program [For Masters most of the programs have 30 Credits*]

2. Find Cost per credit [as per website]

3. Total Cost would be :   No of Credits * Cost Per credit

Some more important points to note are:

1. Duration of programs in USA aren’t fixed

2. Minimum Credits per Semester to be taken to qualify as full time student is 9.

3. Maximum Credits per Semester which can be taken per semester as a full time student is 15.

4. Amount payable will depend on no of credits taken per semester Ex. If you take 9 credits then tuition payable is No of Credits Taken * Cost Per credit

Note: 

1. Check individual program website to know about no of credits

2. Credit hour is the no of hours spent in classroom per week through the semester for that particular module. Ex. If Principles of Management has 3 credits then you will need to spend 3 Hours per week                        throughout the semester.
