In support of international students enrolling in U.S. universities, the U.S. government has announced new changes to visa application periods and guidelines for F-1 visa students experiencing severe economic hardship.
The U.S. Department of State has announced that F and M student visas for new students may be issued up to 365 days in advance of the start date for a course of study. The requirement remains that students are not allowed to enter the United States on their student visas more than 30 days prior to the start date. This change in visa application periods – from 120 days to 365 days prior to the course start date – is designed to increase visa processing times, with universities being allowed to issue I-20s to students up to one year prior to the students’ desired course start date.
